About the Department

The Department of Manipuri, Regional College came into being in the year 1997 with the permission granted by Manipur University to start Manipuri language in Three Year Degree Courses as elective subject. Since its inception with the MIL subjects, intellectual faculties devoted their time for teaching the subject. Currently, it offers four-year BA programme following the semester system of NEP. The Department of Manipuri aims to inculcate the values of higher learning and excellence, especially among the youths.  The key aspect of this courses is to impart knowledge and understanding about the Manipuri language, literature and culture. The vision of this department is to enable the students to acquire indebt knowledge of Manipuri language and literature with a commitment of effective learning and promoting indigenous Manipuri culture and also to provide the students with the knowledge of traditional sayings of folk literatures. 

The Meiteilon/ Meeteilon is the major speaking language by the people of Manipur. It is Lingua-Franca of different communities in the state. Regional College provide an indebt knowledge of the language through teaching and learning process.
